Client: Racine Correctional Institution
Location: Sturtevant, WI
Scope: Replacement of hot water boiler #3
The project included the replacement of the existing hot water boiler #3 located at the Racine Correctional Facility Powerhouse with a new hot water boiler that has the ability to meet the heating demand for the facility through the winter months without additional boilers coming on line. The Racine Correctional Facility hot water heating plant also includes a pair of 250 boiler horsepower hot water boilers.
At the Racine Correctional Facility the existing 35 year old 480 boiler horsepower, fire tube boiler was replaced with a new 500 boiler horsepower, fire tube boiler. The boiler will be equipped with a low Nox burner capable of burning both natural gas and No. 2 fuel oil. The boiler burner was designed for a 10 to 1 turndown capability for natural gas and an 8 to 1 turndown for No. 2 fuel oil. The new boiler was provided with a new breeching and a new cat walk will be built to service the boiler. The new hot water boiler was controlled by a local aqua-stat and will be monitored by the existing Johnson Controls building automation system that serves the facility.
The new boiler equipped with a low Nox burner has increased the efficiency and the reliability of the boiler plant.
