Client: Clara Bo Steak & Seafood and Gatsby Wine Bar
Location: Beloit, WI
Scope: 3,300 sf renovation
This design/build project is a renovation of a 1920’s building, previously a supper club, into a premier steak and seafood restaurant in Beloit, Wisconsin called Clara Bo; named after the 1920’s silent film actress. Also part of the renovation was “Gatsby,” which is a lounge wine bar in the lower level of the building. The 1920’s building was previously a chicken hatchery prior to its conversion to a restaurant.
Exterior work included a new ADA entrance and airlock, ADA toilet room addition, window replacements, new monument sign, complete site re-design and landscape design, as well as other exterior building improvements.
Interior work included a complete gut and remodel of the existing space creating more private dining areas, 2 bars, wine cellar, Art Deco influenced lighting, custom woodwork and interior design details, and re-finishing of existing 1920’s wood floors, and renovated toilet rooms. Due to the lack of storage space in the existing building, glass wine storage walls were used as a space defining signature element in both spaces. Angus-Young provided architectural and interior design, as well as structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering design services in collaboration with the design/build team below.
